Artist Michael Heizer has been building a secret sculpture in the middle of the desert for the past 45 years. The artwork, called “City,” is set to finally open in 2020.

“City” is a monumental architectonic work, with dimensions comparable to those of the National Mall, in Washington, D.C., and a layout informed by pre-Columbian ritual cities like Teotihuacan.
